FAQ

About the CPACE

Our workshop is for anyone who is thinking about earning their Preliminary Administrative Services Credential without going through the time and cost of grad school.

To earn an admin credential, individuals must pass the CPACE and hold a valid prerequisite clear or life credential in the following categories:

  • Teaching
  • Designated Subjects Teaching
  • California Pupil Personnel Services
  • Teacher Librarian Services
  • Speech-Language Pathology Services
  • Clinical or Rehabilitative Services
  • School Nurse Services

The previous version of the CPACE, which had its last administration in February 2015, covered 4 domains and consisted of a video submission, multiple choice section, 3 constructed responses, and 1 case study.

The new CPACE covers 6 domains and cuts out the video submission entirely and replaces it with a scenario-based Performance Assessment. According to the CTC, “this approach would involve present[ing] the candidate with a significant amount of background material relating to a situation that would typically be faced by a school administrator (such as, for example, reviewing a teacher’s lesson plan, video of the lesson, reflections by the teacher, student work samples, and a variety of supporting materials).”

The CTC reports the newly proposed test structure:

  1. Content Assessment (3.5 hours)
    1. 70 Multiple Choice
    2. 3 Focused Constructed-Response Assignments
  2. Performance Assessment (4 hours)
    1. Module 1: School Improvement
    2. Module 2: Evaluating Teacher Effectiveness

Evo Prep’s Workshop will cover all 6 domains and practice in each of the various types of assessments and modules.

The CPACE is comprised of two (2) subtests:

  1. Content Assessment (70 Multiple Choice & 3 Focused Response Assignments)
  2. Performance Assessment (1 Instructional Leadership Module & 1 School Leadership Module)

While both can be taken the same day, we do not recommend it. We repeat — we do not recommend it.

The reason? You will die–or at least, your brain will die. The Content Assessment is 3.5 hours long and the Performance Assessment is 4 hours long.

Our Recommendation?

Take the Content Assessment first. This subtest is the lighter load and will put you in the right frame of mind to tackle the Performance Assessment.

Also, you don’t need to take both subtests in the same administration window. You can take one subtest in one administration window and another subtest in a subsequent testing window.

A passing score on the CPACE is 220 for each subtest (Content & Performance Assessments).

When you receive your test scores, you don’t receive a score for when you pass. Only non-passing scores are provided.

About Our Classes

Yes, this workshop will cover the new and improved CPACE.

As stated in public records, the new CPACE now covers 6 instead of 4 domains and includes new Performance-Based Modules involving assessing individuals’ skills in School Improvement and Evaluating Teacher Effectiveness.

We currently offer 3 types of CPACE prep classes:

  1. In-Person Workshop
  2. Live Online Webinar
  3. Self-Paced Courses

Both the in-person and live webinar classes are one-day courses that cover both the Content and Performance sections of the CPACE. These classes are developed and taught by not one, but two full-time administrators and CPACE experts (Kaitlin and Michelle). The classes are interactive and include live real-time audience polling and writing feedback. This is ideal if you learn best with others and want to interact with your instructors.

The self-paced courses cover the same content from the in-person and webinar workshops, but are pre-recorded and designed so you have unlimited, on-demand access until the end of the current CPACE administration window. This is ideal if you want to study at your own pace in the comfort of your own home.

The content and materials in all three course options are identical. The choice comes down to how you learn best!

Yes! Our Self-Paced Courses are divided into three options:

  1. Content Only
  2. Performance Only
  3. Complete CPACE Prep (Covers both subtests)

So, if you didn’t pass just one portion of the CPACE, you can cater your preparation to your needs!

Find more info here.

If you want to study for the CPACE anytime, anywhere, and at your own pace, then our Self-Paced Courses are the perfect option for you.

You will gain access to pre-recorded videos taught by real administrators who have mastered the CPACE. The content in the self-paced courses are identical to that covered in our one-day workshop and webinar, but paced out so that you can access them for a longer period of time.

Included with each self-paced course are lessons, quizzes, master outline of notes, and a full-length practice exam for both the Content and Performance Assessments. There are 3 self-paced course options:

  1. Content Assessment Only (Geared to prepare you for the Content portion of the CPACE)
  2. Performance Assessment Only (Geared to prepare you for the Performance portion of the CPACE)
  3. Complete Course (Geared to prepare you for both sections of the CPACE)

Your unlimited, on-demand access ends at the end of the current CPACE administration window. (Reminder: The content in the self-paced courses are covered in one full day in our in-person workshop and webinar)

Currently, we hold all of our in-person classes near Downtown Los Angeles at a local middle school lecture hall. Details on class locations can be found here.

We are NOT tutors. We are passionate, experienced, practicing school leaders who are committed to supporting current and aspiring administrators to become leaders in their schools and communities.

We believe in providing high-quality preparation and instruction that involves a balanced blend of input and live practice with the materials. You will be an engaged participant–not a passive listener.

We offer many modes of studying: Live Workshop, Live Online Webinar, Self-Paces Courses. You can check out these options here.

The results and feedback speak for themselves.

You can expect a mindfully planned out agenda that values your time and commitment.

Our workshop is 8 hours (with breaks of course) that will cover the following:

  • Input and practice in all 6 domains to prepare you for BOTH sections of the CPACE (Content & Performance Assessments)
  • Live practice in Multiple Choice items that have been vetted and indexed by domain
  • Live practice in Focused Written Assignments
  • Live practice in Performance-Based Modules on School Leadership and Evaluation of Teacher Effectiveness

Our workshop and webinar run for 8 hours with breaks and lunch built-in.

We know that sounds like a lot, BUT consider the fact that the new CPACE is much more time intensive and includes an entirely new performance-based assessment. In order for us to provide you input and live practice in both the Content and Performance Assessments, we carefully planned out our agenda minute by minute. We don’t fill our workshop with fluff and bad jokes, since your time and commitment is valuable.

We are the only CPACE workshops that provides you dedicated time to engage in actual practice in multiple choice, focused written assignments, school improvement module, and evaluation of teacher effectiveness module.

Remember, it’s 8 hours versus 360 hours in grad school.

Yes! You will have access to our detailed Master Outline, Practice Modules, and Sample Responses/Rationales. If you sign up for our Webinar or Self-Paced Courses, you will be provided with electronic versions of all the materials.

We organize study groups in advance of each workshop based on geographical location. It is up to your group to decide when and where to study, but we provide the avenue for learning to continue beyond our workshop.

Evo Prep has a Private Facebook Group for just Evo Prep participants. This group is a gold mine of tips and strategies as well as a space for you to connect with current and past participants. To join, you must have attended (or registered to attend) any of our courses. Request to join here.

After the CPACE

If you don’t pass the CPACE after attending our workshop, there’s no need to fret. We truly believe that practice makes perfect.

We are constantly improving our workshop based on participant feedback and suggestions. We stand by our workshop and the value it provides. That is why if you don’t pass the first time, you can enroll in a follow-up workshop, webinar, or self-paced course for *FREE.

*Participants may retake the same course they originally registered for. In-Person/Webinar participants may re-take the corresponding class, and Self-Paced participants may re-take that course again.

According to the CTC, “Passing examination scores for the current version of the exam must be used for certification purposes within ten years of the individual test date. See Title 5 Regulations §80071 for more information on exam score validity.”

This means that within ten (10) years of passing the CPACE, you must use the scores to apply for a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential.

Information on the requirements to apply for a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential can be found on the CTC website here.

In short, you need to submit application 41-4, application fee, proof of pre-requisite credential, and proof of 5 years of experience under that credential.
